The Big Picture
The exhibition explores multifaceted artistic disciplines such as painting, photography, sculpture, digital art, performance art, installation, music, audio art and video.

Thursday 7

Shorter+Sweeter – The Best of Short+Sweet
This new show brings together the best acting, writing and directing talent from the first three years of the main Short+Sweet Dubai Theatre Festival. Featuring nine, ten-minute plays that have enjoyed success at other Short+Sweet festivals across the world, this production is a comprehensive showcase of some of the event’s best.

Ladies in Paint
In this series of contemporary portrait paintings of beautiful, iconic women, Susan Brooker reveals her inspirations – graffiti, people and vibrant colours. In the paintings she has depicted femininity by using thick, vibrant oils and just a palette knife.

Mouneer al Shaarani
The exhibition showcases the works of renowned Syrian calligraphy artist Mouneer al Shaarani. The artist is highly regarded across the globe for introducing unique, innovative calligraphic styles and for taking his inspiration from everything that surrounds him.

Street Nights
Following the success of the second edition of Street Nights, the urban culture event is back, taking over a new street in Dubai. The Walk, JBR, will come to life with an abundance of food, art and live music. Local street artists will also be painting live, while DJs provide the soundtrack to the event. The pop-up studio organised by thejamjar will introduce kids to painting on canvas with guidance from artistic coaches.

Sunday 10

Seeds from the Desert Sand
The exhibition features works by Oman-based German artists Gazmend Kalemi and Miriam Humer. This is the first time the pair will have exhibited their works in collaboration publicly. It is also the first time they will have exhibited in the UAE. Although their art varies in style and subject, similar materials are used including paper, pencil and water. Recurring elements such as transparency, rocks and plants also appear. The artists explore connective ideas of spring, growth and renewal and they are inspired by elements of their surroundings in the Middle East.

Juliet Makhlouf
Dubai-based Syrian artist Juliet Makhlouf’s paintings are carefully articulated renditions of shape and colour that invite the viewer to be optically bewildered by the intricately constructed illusions of geometric shape and form.

Tuesday 12

Gardens by Design
Australian artist Ashleigh Manley paints gardens from the Pacific as well as the Middle East. His vibrant pieces feature exotic flowers, blossom branches and jacaranda trees in full bloom, and will be exhibited alongside his other works that contrast the vivid colours of the Australian outback and the deserts that surround Dubai.
